Day One
In the morning I felt quite nervous as I really didn't know what to expect even though I had contacted the company beforehand, but I was also very excited at the same time because I had been told the sorts of thing the company did and I thought it would be fun to see what it was like. I was very interested to see what goes on in the office as well at the workshop because I take interest in both.
My first impressions were good. When I walked in I was still a bit nervous but then I was greeted by Peter who reassured me that this would be fun and that we would have a great experience. The atmosphere was very relaxed and friendly, but it also seemed very hardworking, I liked the fact they were allowed to listen to music while working because that is how I work.
Today we were firstly given a quick briefing of the company and were told exactly what they do and we were also told we could do many tasks over the next few days, which was good because we got to do as we wished. We were told to read the health and safety guide, which was informative. In the briefing we also got an induction and learnt the way the company worked as well. Our first task was on CAD (computer aided design) where we had to change the text on the correct layer of the labels which were then ready to be cut out by the machine. We then got to go set up the engraving machine which was then ready to cut out the labels, which was interesting. At the end of the day we were told to design our own labels which we only just started to design because it took some time to get used to the software because it was different to the one we usually used at school.
By the end of the day I was very glad I chose this placement because I did not get bored and the tasks were interesting and I looked forward to coming again for the next day. All the people were nice and friendly and the atmosphere made it nicer because I felt like I could talk to the staff if I had a problem or a query.
